I recently ran a poll/survey on my website and the two main reasons that people found that inhibited them from changing their lifestyles (NEWSTART) was lack of time, and inconvenience. I thought about that a lot, and I would have to agree on the surface level. Upon thinking on it a bit further, I think it goes a bit deeper, the psychology of change. Not that I am a psychologist or anything fancy for that matter, just thinking out a loud my thoughts more than anything.
Time
I figure time can’t be the real problem, because in essence we do have the time. Let me explain. How often do we come home from a hard day’s work, and rather than spend say thirty minutes of our time exercising, we spend :
- Hours sitting in front of a T.V
- Playing video games, playstation, wii, and xbox
- Facebooking
- Internet surfing
- Playing online computer games (more…)
Hi everyone, my name is Marlon Wambeek, I created this site with a purpose to honestly educate people about health. I would like to share my experiences and hopefully they can be a help to you as well.
For the best part of the last 10 years of my life I have worked as an Accountant, and a business consultant. But as much as accounting has been a “necessary evil” as one of my clients once told me, my real passion has always been health. (more…)
Well I touched briefly on the concept of NEWSTART in my earlier post. I will endeavour to explain briefly what it is, and how you can apply it to almost anything, whether that be weight loss, more energy, longevity, general well being, athlete, recovery from illness, or anything else for that matter.
So what is it?
Well each word in the acronym NEWSTART means something as follows:
N – Is for Nutrition, the old saying, “you are what you eat”, this couldn’t be more true, we live in a society of instant everything, foods have been processed to the point they shouldn’t be classed as “food” per se. I will explore the massive benefits of eating right, the myths, outright lies, and plain simple truths, and hopefully rather than add to the confusion of this topic, bring some semblance of balance into this well discussed topic. (more…)
This is one of those topics that many people cringe at; it’s the one thing that is often a stumbling block for many. I would like our readers to really take up the challenge of exercise as it’s a crucial part of the NEWSTART program, or even take a step to making a change in their daily lifestyle, from a more sedentary one to a more active day.
Statistics in the UK
I read some statistics recently from the UK, and I think generally this covers most of western society, my suggestion is don’t become a statistic, as you read through them. Please don’t think I am trying to scare anyone into exercising, but think of it more as a plea for your health. (more…)
We are born in a watery world, we are creatures of water, here’s a few quick statistics of what we are made up of.
85% of our brain is water
82% of our blood
90% of our lungs
70% of our muscles
15% of our bones
On average 65-70% of our bodies are made up of water.
So you think we need to drink up? I think that goes without saying really. I know for some of you it might be hard, you were never brought up drinking water, you would prefer to down a cup of coffee, or an orange juice, and think that’s going to hydrate you. I’m afraid you are only kidding yourself really, I mean that in the best way possible. (more…)
What is sugar? Sugar is a carbohydrate, which is basically, sugars and starches (as in potatoes, wheat). Different foods contain different types of sugars; sucrose in cane and beets, dextrose in corn; fructose in fruit and honey; galactose in milk and many more. Starch is found in grains, legumes and tubers (such as potatoes).
All sugars are converted in the body to glucose. Our three main food sources are proteins, fats and carbohydrates. For good health our body needs all three of these nutrients. (more…)

Air quality is an essential element in the NEWSTART program and I’m sure you will agree, that it is something you literally cannot live without. I used to have a friend of mine who does free diving, and I used to be amazed how long he could hold his breath, I think his record was around 4mins and 30 seconds or so, but he was a freak of nature, most of us would struggle to hold our breaths for a couple of minutes. My point been without air we would not be alive. In terms of critical factors for survival, air would have to rank number 1. So with that in mind, how much of an impact do you think the quality of air we breathe has on our health? I would suggest a lot more than we care to believe. (more…)
