The Science behind the Paradigm Shift in Exercise

I believe there is mounting evidence that would suggest a paradigm shift in the way we think, when it comes to exercise, especially in modern society, where time is at a great deficit. Like everything though exercise is a lifestyle change that you have to incorporate into your lifestyle, and it plays a vital role in NEWSTART. So without any further ado, lets get into it. I will go into a bit of depth analyzing the current mode of thinking, and what I think is a far more effective way to exercise. This is going to be a multi-series article. (more…)

Intense nutrition and exercise for unbelievable results!!!

In the first sequence of articles on how to look and feel great using NEWSTART, I would like to examine the topic of Nutrition, and what you can do to maximise the effects of exercising. The promise in my prior article was to get a leaner, stronger body using NEWSTART.

In trying to achieve this, I am going to challenge your views on exercise and nutrition, a lot of elite athletes, models and celebrities follow pretty much what I am going to provide in the next few paragraphs. Ironically most of the things I am going to discuss are pretty much common sense. (more…)

Kettle Bells – The only piece of exercise equipment you will ever need

Various Kettlebell sizesStrong men of old times used to carry around, and even name there kettle bells, it was something they affectionately kept close to them at all times, and it was predominately the only piece of equipment they used. I have been utilising this cheap and extremely effective piece of equipment for around 2-3 years, and since using them I have never looked back. Amazingly I have had far less injuries or pain, but have enjoyed a massive leap in my strength and overall health.

Some of the many benefits of kettle bells are :

1.      Improved co-ordination and agility

2.      One of the most effective means of strength development and “a new era in the development of human strength-potential” (soviet armed forces manual)

3.      Great for your heart – A study of 75 experienced gireviks (Russian for a kettle bell lifter), showed a long term decrease in the heart rate and blood pressure. The girevik’s has what Russians call “cosmonaut’s blood pressure”: 110/70 in summer and 114/74 in the winter. They had an average resting heart rate of 56 beats per minute, which is the equivalent of a professional athlete.

4.      Kettle bells properly used are very safe

5.      Kettle bell training improves body composition, ie quickest way to lose excess fat

6.      Enhances normal body movements (more…)

Kettle Bell Beginners Exercise Routine

Kettle Bell ExercisesThe following is an excellent beginners routine, based on a kettle bell. In the oncoming week, I will go into much greater detail on how to choose your kettle bell, including weight, safety precautions, more exercises etc.

One thing about kettle bells is that it promotes biomotor (life movements) abilities required for functional human movement. Kettlebell exercises mimic the way that our bodies should move in everyday situations. This type of training teaches our bodies correct movement skills. (more…)

Alternative Exercise and Organic Vegetables, what do they have in common?

As an alternative exercise and a way to get nutritious organic vegetables, I thought I would do a series on gardening. It’s not going to be something everyone does, but whoever has the time and the resources, and enjoys gardening, is really going to benefit from it. (more…)

NEWSTART – E – Importance of Exercise

NEWSTART – Exercise

This is one of those topics that many people cringe at; it’s the one thing that is often a stumbling block for many. I would like our readers to really take up the challenge of exercise as it’s a crucial part of the NEWSTART program, or even take a step to making a change in their daily lifestyle, from a more sedentary one to a more active day.

Statistics in the UK

I read some statistics recently from the UK, and I think generally this covers most of western society, my suggestion is don’t become a statistic, as you read through them. Please don’t think I am trying to scare anyone into exercising, but think of it more as a plea for your health. (more…)

NEWSTART – My Exercise Routine

The biggest constraint for exercise, is time. Period. Lack of time, and getting the most out of your bang for TIME, been the highest priority. I don’t think there is a cheat sheet, to get around this little problem, but I’ve tried my best to get the most out of my time exercising.

My history with exercise

One thing I really enjoying doing is exercise. My journey in the NEWSTART program has given me a more profound understanding of the necessity of exercise. We are designed to be active, however most of us in western society live and work in positions that lend itself to a sedentary lifestyle. (more…)

The NEWSTART 5, 2, 1

As I see it the most important and vital part of the NEWSTART program is time spent with God, I posted an article on this a little while ago. Followed closely by Nutrition and Exercise. I think all the other categories, Water, Sunshine, Temperance, Air and Rest complement and support the top three factors.

On a weekly/daily basis this is what I do.

Water

I was really fortunate that I had a mother that taught me to drink water from an early age, so I didn’t have the additional task of having to change my tastes to do something that is extremely vital for us on a daily basis.

I drink 2.5-3 litres of water on a daily basis. I find without water I loose my concentration, I lack energy and just can’t sustain the workload I do on a daily basis.

Sunshine

I try to get out in the sunshine at least 3-4 times a week, it always leaves me feeling vitalised and literally buzzing with energy. I think it could be something to do with the endorphins it helps our bodies release. Alongside of all the awesome things that it does, in summer I am hoping to exercise outside as well. In my article I think I mentioned how the Roman’s and Spartans used to train in the sun, because they already worked out, they got stronger. (more…)
